Dos Amigos Sport fishing Charters

Established in 1975 and Captain Thomas Sprague owned it since 1992.

The Dos Amigos Fishing charters has been in Clearwater Beach since 1976. I have owned and captained the boat since 1992. She is a 36 foot Crusader fiberglass hull sport fishing vessel. It is powered by an extremely reliable and newly rebuilt Cummins 450hp diesel engine, which is one of the fastest and most reliable boats in the Marina.

The boat has four fighting chairs in the cockpit. The two chairs closest to the back are removable for those people who love a good fish fight standing up. There is cushion on the gunnel for stand up fishing all around the inside of the cockpit for your comfort. We have added an awning on the deck for those hot summer days (why didn’t I do this 25 years ago?). There is a dinette aboard along with a long bench seat in the cabin. We have a large drink cooler for all of your beverages . There is also a bunk and bathroom facility(yes we carry toilet paper ladies) down below. We carry the appropriate life vests, flares and Coast Guard approved safety equipment. Our vessel is also very clean and well maintained.

Meet The Captain

Be prepared to have a fun time on your fishing charter trip. Captain Tom has been fishing since he could hold a pole in his hand. Dedicated to the joy of the sport, his success as a local fisherman ( especially grouper and snapper fishing) has earned him a reputation for being one of the “top guides” in the area. In fact he is affectionately known by the other Captains as “Killer”.Tom and his wife, Pam, have owned the Dos Amigos since 1992. During that time he has consistently come “home” with a box full of fish.

Fun Trivia

We are often asked if we speak Spanish. We would have to answer no although the name would say otherwise. Good ol’ American fun is fun for all.

When Tom is not fishing, he is enjoying time with his family, playing golf, and a good cigar. He has a fun sense of humor and loves to make people laugh.

Tom builds his own fishing rods and takes great pride in the wrapped designs on them. He also repairs all of his reels(last count about 60 or so).He is very handy with his hands and is up for any mechanical or building challenge.

Fishing Trip Options

Trolling consist of the boat is constantly moving.Trolling is for beginners and experts alike. We put out four lines behind the boat ,a couple down deep and a couple near the surface. we will use spoons ,plugs, jigs, and ballyhoo (not related to cindy-loo hoo!). Once the fish have been located Capt. Tom will circle on top of the school and wait for the big fish to strike!

Consist of the boat stopping and anchoring. 6 people can fish at one time while doing this. You drop you weighed hook to the bottom and wait for for that bite! Sometimes it is fast and furious and other times it is a bit slower. You will always catch something this way. Groupers are the main fish doing this, and Gray Snappers are also a tasty treat! In the fall and winter months we do try to catch Hogfish. These goofy looking fish are a real treat on the dinner plate.

These trips are one of my favorite charters to run. 8-12 hour trips. It can be a long ride but it is well worth it when you get there. The action is fast and furious with nice Red Snapper and BIG Grouper coming over the side of the boat . The Snapper will range from 5lbs to 20lbs and the Grouper will be from 10-20lb'ers. Also with this trip, if we catch our limit of fish we can troll out there and maybe get lucky with a Black Fin Tuna ,Mahi Mahi, Sailfish or a Wahoo! Snapper season is open on June 1st and ends on Aug 1st this year . Make sure you get some of that!!!

At the end of the day, the captain will display your fish for you, and you can get all the pictures you want!

You can hold up your fish or your friends fish for a picture, after a few years you can say that you caught that big one (pictures never lie but old fisherman tales do). The Captain will clean all your fish and bag them up.

Coolers are welcome, but if you don’t have one, no worries mate. I have a large cooler for all your food and drinks, and all the ice you will need. If you bringing home fish, and you need a cooler, the marina has some styro-foam coolers for sale. You can also bring your catch to Crabby’s (across the parking lot) or Salt Crackers (in the marina building) and they will cook your fish for a really reasonable price and you get two side dishes for a nice fish dinner!
